As Microsoft has added new features to windows 8 that are “Metro Apps”, because of these apps windows 8 reserves the internet speed about 80% in favor of Metro Apps that decreases your speed in windows 8. Here are two methods which can help you a lot to increase and get back your old internet speed, both these tricks work great and I recommend you to apply both for the best result.
Follow Simple Steps to Limit System Apps Internet Usage
Step 1: Go to RUN command (Windows key + R) and type “GPEDIT.MSC” without quotes, and press ok.
Step 2: This will take you to “Local Group Policy Editor”. Now you can find a drop down list at left side of the window.
Step 3: Click on Administrative Templates > Network > QoS packet Scheduler.
Step 4: Now you can get a list of settings like DSCP value of conforming packets, DSCP value of non-conforming packets, Layer-2 priority value, Limit outstanding packets, Limit reservable bandwidth, Set timer resolution, Click on “Limit Reservable Bandwidth”
Step5: Now you will get a windows in that click on Enable it will be not configured and change the Bandwidth limit to 50%. Click ok to apply and save settings.
Step6: Reconnect to internet or Restart your PC to see changes.
Note: Limiting Bandwidth to less than 50% may result in malfunction of your metro apps.
Remove Unwanted Apps to Increase Internet Speed
Step 1: Go To start menu and Right click on the Apps that you don’t use from your start screen like Messaging, Maps, Finance, News, weather, people etc.
Step 2: Now you will see a menu at bottom part of your windows. Click on “Turn live tile off” by turning live tile off than the unused apps will not start working automatically as you connect to Internet.
To turn your live tile on again, follow these steps.
- Go To start menu and Right click on the Apps that you want to turn on again.
- You will again get a menu at the bottom part of your start menu.
- Click on Turn live tile on.
