October 10, 2016wp-himu2 Comments

Whenever we need to check if Internet is working or not we just visit Google and make few queries. If we get any search result, it means Internet is working otherwise not. It’s our universal way of checking Internet status as Google search always work perfectly.

We are going to use same trick here but in a different way. We are going to ping Google with ping command.

Sometimes, even when you’re connected to Internet ( or any network), you aren’t able to browse anything. There are many reasons let’s see.

When We Need to Check Internet Working?

Or the question is “Why the Internet is Not Accessible When I am Connected to the Network?” There might be following reasons,

  • Problem with Browser: Sometime our web browsers do not work properly due to some bug/error. One such problem is Internal communication error in Opera Browser. When the error creep none of browser on systems work and we only gets a message “internal communication error” and nothing on other browsers.
  • Firewall or Internet Security: Some parents are tech savvy and to protect their Kids from Internet they have installed Internet security tool and firewalls to block particular type of sites and/or social networking sites or hacking.
  • Other Reasons: There may be some problem with router or any other computer peripheral or network card.

Trick to Check If Internet is Working or Not & How to Ping Google?

If you are reading this page, your Internet is definitely working unless you are reading a hard copy or saved page. Ok let’s start:

Window 7, search for cmd (command prompt) and open it.
Window XP, open RUN (window key+R) and type CMD to open it.

Type ping google.com

Or any other site that replies to your ping, try facebook.com or himanshunegi.xyz.

internet is working or not

If you’ll get the reply as following (or seen in image)

Pinging google.com [] with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from bytes=32 time=81ms TTL=54
Reply from bytes=32 time=75ms TTL=54
Reply from bytes=32 time=73ms TTL=54
Reply from bytes=32 time=74ms TTL=54

Ping statistics for

Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 73ms, Maximum = 81ms, Average = 75ms

Ping sends out a signal (called a packet) to a designated address and measures its response time. It does this four times. Successful ping reply means Internet is working! (actually it means server is working). If request time out you’ll get the following reply

Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.

Request timed out.

When Internet is Not Working or designated address doesn’t exist you’ll get following message:

Ping request could not find host Google.com. Please check the name and try again

If you are interested to know more ping commands try command Ping /? or just Ping on CMD.

      Hello Ankit,

Sometimes antivirus like quickheal, kaspersky etc. disables the command prompt and no command is executed at cmd therefore there is no result.

If you know any proxy or internet filtering or protection software is installed, you have to first find out which is it? or what it is? Once you know if it’s k9 web protection, netgear firewall or something else you can find ways to bypass it on our blog or other websites 🙂
