Basic Web Design Principles Kepping Website and Visitors in Mind

Whether you plan to design your website yourself or hire a professional agency, it is important to understand the principles of a good web design. Many people want to make their website attractive, but there are important principles to keep in mind. Always remember to tailor your website according to the expectations of your target market.

web designEasy to read website content: We are visual creatures. So if you’re planning to put a big block of text on your website, expect your visitors to leave. The most effective way is to support your content with visually engaging graphics. In this way, you encourage your visitors to read your contents and eventually turn them into customers.

Easy navigation: This is one of the common mistakes in website design and development because many use the latest trends when it comes to site navigation. But the question is, are these trends intuitive? The important thing to keep in mind when it comes to site navigation is simplicity. Always use the most basic sidebar so that your visitors will know what to look for.

Color is power: Always remember to choose user-friendly colors. Using the wrong background and font color combination would spell disaster. Let’s say for example, a bright red font color on a white background might not be visually striking. Your website visitors will have a hard time reading your contents. When designing and developing your website, avoid using anything that can cause discomfort to your readers. If they can’t read your contents, they will immediately leave thus, hurting your conversion rates.

A big NO to a busy website: Too much activity on your website will turn your visitors off. Do not fill your website with flash animations, animated gifs, and flashing texts. Animations may make your website attractive but these will also distract your visitors, taking their attention away from the parts of your site that you want them to focus on.

Screen resolution: This is the size and shape of the computer monitor that your page will be viewed on. A lot of web users use high screen resolution, though most still use the “square” aspect ratio rather than the “widescreen” one.

Practical considerations: Use common sense when assessing your own page and make adjustments accordingly. Is the text too small or big? Are the contents easy to read? Is the heading too big or indistinguishable from the main text? Do you images load properly or take time to appear? Are there unnecessary elements cluttering the view? It is important to carefully examine your pages to avoid these issues.
