Hey friends do you have important files on computer those are personal and shouldn’t be accessed by everyone? But you find that they aren’t protected and everyone is able to access and edit them via local network or by another user account on same computer? The reason is that the file or folder permission by default is set to allow everyone to view and edit it and anyone can easily access, view or edit it.
In simple words, Changing file permissions of a file means applying restrictions on a file to decide who can access it or who can’t.
How to Change File Permission in Windows?
Follow these simple steps to change file permission and block others viewing or editing your files.
- Right click on the file or folder of which you want to change the permission and click on the option Properties.
- Click on Security Tab and click Edit Option.
- A dialogue box appears As “Permissions for “Folder of file name”. Now select all username expect your own and deny all permission as shown in image. Currently my user name is Akash (Akash-Pc\Akash).
- Now click on Apply and then OK.
Now if anybody will try to open these files or folder he/she will get “You have been denied permissions to access this folder” error.
Changing file permission will make you files accessible only to you and others will be restricted to look into these files or your folder. If you’re facing any problem or want to share something you can leave a comment below for Akash.
