Bypass Netgear Firewall and Unblock Websites
What is Netgear firewall? A Netgear firewall is a combination of hardware and software. The hardware part gives Netgear firewalls excellent performance, while the software part allows firewalls to be tailored to your specific needs.
My story: I was doing internship at some company and I find Netgear firewall was blocking everything (even companies official mail website as it was poorly configured). Whenever I used to fire-up any web browser it says “Website Blocked By Netgear Firewall“. In a few days I found some quick ways to bypass Netgear firewall and access internet.
What is a Firewall? A firewall can either be software-based or hardware-based. Firewall is used to help keep a network secure. Its primary objective is to control the incoming and outgoing network traffic by analyzing the data packets and determining whether it should be allowed through or not, it’s an Internet connection filter.
NOTE: Please note that these tricks might not work for you as it depends on the Netgear firewall settings and its model/version. Therefore, to find the best solution for you, you just have to try these simple tweaks.
Bypass Netgear Firewall with Proxy Websites
If you want to visit any Website that is blocked by Netgear Firewall then you don’t need to mess up with Netgear firewall. The quick solution is to use a proxy website to view and browse any site.
A proxy website is website that connects you to a specific website from their computers and provides you the similar functionality.
If you don’t want to know or understand How to Remove Netgear firewall then this should be your best way.
Access Facebook using Secure Http or Mobile Version
If you are visiting any website that says “Website Blocked By Netgear Firewall” then the best way to access is to use secure http (if the website allows or have https:// functionality). Visit https://facebook.com instead of just http://facebook.com.
Sometimes visiting http://m.facebook.com, mbasic.facebook.com or touch.facebook.com also helps. These are different mobile versions of facebook website.
What is secure http or https?
Http stands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) is a widely used communications protocol for secure communication over a computer network, with especially wide deployment on the Internet. Technically, it is not a protocol in and of itself; rather, it is the result of simply layering the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) on top of the SSL/TLS protocol, thus adding the security capabilities of SSL/TLS to standard HTTP communications.
Firefox: Unblock Websites by Adding Exceptional Certificate
Now if you know that your Netgear firewall allows secure http, you can add it to each website you want to visit but if the website doesn’t support secure http then you can add exceptional certificate in your Mozilla Firefox browser.
Step 1: Use https:// before the website URL.
Step 2: Click on the option “I Understand the Risks” on error page
Step 3: Add and confirm exception and maybe you’ll be able to access it.
Chrome: Access Blocked Website Using Google Search
Open Google chrome and instead of placing website address at address bar put the keywords (or website name) so that you can visit websites via Google Search (This means Google Secure Http URL will redirect you to website) . Click the appropriate result/link to access blocked website.
I didn’t get much time to get around Netgear Firewall otherwise I would be having some permanent solution for website blocked by Netgear firewall. All above quick tweaks may prove helpful to deal with Netgear Firewall.
